Formal Planning Permission for the proposed Supermarket, petrol station, play barn etc. has been lodged with Breckland District Council. Details available on their website.

Breckland Planning Reference 3PL/2013/1184/0, should anyone wish to examine the plans in detail.

Just been having a look at these proposals. I have had an open mind on this idea since I first read about it a few months back. Looks to be a well thought out development. Making good use of a non-used brownfield site, multiple use units, plenty of parking, bringing temporary jobs during construction followed by permanent employment afterwards. Good access as long as the 'new' bridge is built over the current level crossing. Blood awful access if the bridge is elsewhere and the level-crossing closed. If this development hinders the awful by-pass/ring road proposals then I know which I will choose. But then again, Brandonians don't get a meaningful yes or no on this, do we. It's Breckland.
a scot in brandon,

The main problem as I see it is that the supermarket superstore will be stocking hardware / electrical as well as food, and the other planned retail is aimed at diy store both of which will hit the shops in Brandon along with Weeting people not needing to cross the border into Brandon. I fear our retailers are finding it hard now without further competition.

I also wonder how much employment will be comming for Brandon people, I would guess very little.

Having said all that I can see very little that could be put there except maybe productive factories that might give engineering & clerical office employment. But would that give enough return for Breckland & the developers?

Even without what goes in the other retail outlets, every supermarket/ DIY store/ Convience store/ Discount store turns into a 'pretend' garden centre during the main gardening season. So yes, being totally selfish we could do without even more competition.

You've only got to do a google search for 'businesses for sale in Brandon, suffolk' to see how difficult it is trading in any line atm.

Zero hour contracts & part time hours.

The research is well out of date. Five Bells is re-opening, theres a petrol station (with very competitive prices) in Weeting just two things I picked up on.
