Brandon voluntary forum update..

For anyone that didnt make it to the networking meeting on the 16th April and would like to understand what goes on at these meetings please see details below.

 
The evening was attended by 13 people from 15 different community groups which was an  amazing turnout for the Easter holidays.

 

The evening kicked off with an introduction to the two newest members of the Brandon forum, the Stroke Association and Family carers support group. Robert from the stroke association spoke about how they have a good level of attendance and for this group, however they are in desperate need of volunteers to manage and chair the group. If Anyone knows of a person that would be willing to lead this group or volunteer for positions such as treasurer the stroke association would offer training and guidance in return.

 

Next the Family carers group introduced themselves and their plans for the future, highlighting how after interviewing a number of carers in Brandon they identified a need for a support network in the area. This group is in the early stages of development and will launch itself fully to the public at the Brandon Volunteer fayre on 21st May. If anyone would like more information about this group or the stroke group please get in touch and I will point you in the right direction.

 

Next we heard from the Assistant Director of the Keystone Development Trust, Sadie Harvey. Sadie was there to talk about the research that had taken place surrounding the divesting of public buildings which was commissioned by Suffolk County Council titled ‘The Place Makers Report. Sadie mentioned how Keystone itself uses a cluster approach to managing buildings in that the profit making buildings can sustain the not for profit organisations that they manage. Sadie made it clear that the report would be handed over to Suffolk County Council in May and that it would be up to them if they released it to the public.

 

Lastly we had a long awaited update from Leigh Driver regarding the Brandon 2011 project. Leigh spoke about events planned for the coming year such as dance shows, street art, window displays and much, much more. A possible date of 10th and 11th September was suggested  for a big Arts and Heritage weekend to tie up with the upcoming Braderie, Leigh went on to highlight that these events will be unfunded and should be run by the community for the community. If you have any ideas or would like to contribute to Brandon 2011 please get in touch...

 

Lastly I would just like to mention that attendance for the volunteer fayre is going from strength to strength, however I would like to have a bigger community clubs presence to highlight the range of clubs in Brandon. If you would like a free table or to hold an event on 21st May to promote your club or organisation please get in touch with me as soon as possible....
